| Max Wasson was born on May 19,
2000, and everything appeared to be okay except that he was a little jaundiced. But after
two months, he was still jaundiced and underwent three weeks of testing to determine the
problem- biliary atresia. He then had his Kasai on August 21. After a tough battle cholangitis immediately after his Kasai, he is doing much better. His bilirubin is down to 2.0, and he is an active 7 moth old. He likes to be read to and watch Blues' Clues. We thank God for Max. He is a wonderful inspiration to us and to those who met him. Brennan was born in Atlanta in 1999 with a condition called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, which left him with only the right side of his heart functioning. After birth, he was transferred immediately to Egleston Children's Hospital to have the first of a series of three operations to reroute the flow of blood through his heart by means of a special shunt. He was only two months old when he had to undergo a follow-up operation to adjust the shunt. By February of last year, he had his chest opened a third time for the insertion of a second, larger shunt in the second stage of the rerouting procedure. The hope was that, with a third shunt inserted when he turned 3, he would not have to have a heart transplant until the age of 18 or 19; an age when his body would be better able to withstand the rigors of the transplant. Shortly after a routine check-up last August, it became apparent from Brennan's weak condition that he would not be able to wait that long. A catherization in October confirmed that the right side of Brennan's heart was deteriorating from being overworked. From October 26th until February 22 at 7:45 am, Brennan remained in Atlanta at Egleston. He underwent his transplant on November 9th. Brennan fought a long and tough battle, but now has went on to Heaven to be with God. With his fight on Earth over, Brennan can now play in Heaven like he wasn't able to here. Brennan touched thousands of lives with his fighting spirit and will never be forgotten. | Kelly was born with an
inflammatory bowel disease and was first hospitalized when she was six weeks old. She
spent approximately 2 ½ months in the hospital, being fed through her veins in hope that
her inflammatory bowel disease would heal with bowel rest and medication. In April of 1999, at the age of 10, Kelly was diagnosed with Colorectal Cancer that had spread to her lymph nodes. She underwent 2 major abdominal surgeries for Cancer. On her 11th birthday we met with the Oncologist to discuss Chemotherapy. Kelly underwent chemotherapy from May of 1999 until January of 2000. She had many complications during this time from the chemotherapy. She has gotten her new liver and is feeling a lot better now. |
